Become a Member
Membership in Buffalo Choral Arts Society is by audition. We rehearse and perform four different concerts each season. Members are expected to work outside of rehearsals to learn their voice parts and prepare for ensemble rehearsals.

Rehearsals and Expectations
Mandatory rehearsals are held each Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:30 PM from September through early June. Members are expected to report anticipated conflicts and absences for rehearsals and individual concerts with as much advance notice as possible.

Members are expected to work individually outside of weekly rehearsals to learn the required music as needed. Rehearsal plans are provided each week and practice tracks are typically available for each voice part on our member website. You'll be expected to arrive at rehearsals on time and prepared to make music as an ensemble.

Established standards for BCAS concert dress must be strictly adhered to.

Annual membership dues are $100.
​
In addition to rehearsals and performances, BCAS has many opportunities to volunteer, including setup/takedown of risers and equipment at concerts, fundraising events, ticket sales, marketing, and more.
The BCAS Family
Some of our best BCAS moments and memories occur offstage and outside the rehearsal space. Buffalo Choral Arts Society is a family. It's the "third space" where we come to mingle with friends outside home and work. Whether it's fundraising opportunities, community events, member get-togethers, or social gatherings after rehearsals, we always make room in our busy schedules for the BCAS family time that brings us all closer together.

Auditioning
Although it's important for Buffalo Choral Arts Society members to possess a high level of musical and vocal ability, a conscientious, diligent, and punctual work ethic is also valued. Experience in ensemble singing is essential, and some level of music sight reading skills are expected, even if basic.
Vocalizing
You’ll be guided through a brief warm-up and vocal exercises to listen to your range, vocal color, ability to match pitch, and intonation.
Sight Reading
You’ll be asked to identify the parts of the choral score and sing a few measures of a selected piece with piano accompaniment.
Prepared Solo
Prepare a solo that demonstrates your vocal abilities. Please bring an extra copy of this music to your audition for our accompanist if needed.
